Additional information:

Montblanc  is a German manufacturer of luxury writing instrumentswatchesjewellery and leather goods, often identified by their "Snow peak" logo.

A Hamburg banker, Alfred Nehemias, and a Berlin engineer, August Eberstein, produced simple pens in 1906. After a short period of time Wilhelm Dziambor, Christian Lausen and later Claus Johannes Voss took over the business. Their first model was the Rouge et Noir in 1909 followed in 1910 by the pen that was later to give the company its new name, Montblanc. The Meisterstück name (English: "Masterpiece", the name used for export) was used for the first time in 1924. Today, the Montblanc brand is on other goods besides pens, including watches, jewellery, fragrances, leather goods and eyewear.

The company was acquired by Dunhill in 1977.Today, Montblanc forms part of the Richemont group. Its sister companies include luxury brands CartierVan Cleef & ArpelsChloé, and Baume et Mercier.

Branding

A trademark identified with Montblanc is the white stylized six-pointed snowcap with rounded edges, representative of the Mont Blanc snowcap from above, the symbol being adopted in 1913. The number "4810," the mountain's height in meters, is also a  recurring theme.

In January 2014, Hugh Jackman was announced as Montblanc's Global Brand Ambassador, outside of US.

Characteristics

Montblanc makes several models of pens, with the Meisterstück (fountain pen) representing the cornerstone model. Each model is slightly different, however models created after 1990 have a serial number located on the ring at the top of the clip. Under the clip is usually the words "Made in Germany" and often "Pix". Moreover, the barrel of the pen will reveal a reddish hue under strong lighting. If the pen in question does not have these attributes then it is possibly a fake.

The Montblanc factory in Villeret, Montblanc’s Movement & Innovation Excellence Center, is located in the same building in which the legendary Minerva was founded in 1858 and focuses on the development, prototyping and assembly of all in-house movements from innovative and groundbreaking high-complications to small highly functional complications. This location is one of the last ones where most of the traditional horological operations, with all their micromechanical refinements, are still meticulously performed by hand – almost as though each timepiece were individually crafted as a unique item.

“The company is one of the very few manufacturers able to draw on the master watchmakers, the original tools and the expertise needed to develop and produce mechanical timepieces in keeping with authentic Swiss watchmaking tradition. Following the principles of their heritage, and with constant innovation, the artisans in Villeret present exclusive developments that differ in many respects from anything that modern haute horlogerie has ever created”.

Back in 2014, right after Jérôme Lambert was appointed CEO of the brand (and who is now COO of almost all the Maisons at Richemont Group), Montblanc introduced the Heritage collection – a line-up of classical, elegant watches with a clear vintage appeal, in both the design and the use of complications. There was some Minerva inspiration, yet with the usual “affordability” the brand is known for

When he joined Montblanc in 2013, Lambert infused a new energy into the brand. First of all was the concept of “accessible luxury“, so dear to him. The idea was to offer a wide range of complications – from simple calendars, moonphases or ultra-thin watches – that covered almost the entire spectre of watchmaking, including the impressive Heritage Perpetual Calendar, which in steel, was back in the days, the most affordable QP on the market (below EUR 10,000). This was the technical part. In terms of style and design, Lambert also brought back classicism and elegance, by infusing a bit of vintage appeal into the watches, although not the vintage style usually seen these days in 1960s-inspired sports watches. Montblanc and its Heritage collection were looking at the classic style of 1940s dress watches.
